Summer Fat Camp

Overweight kids and teens can have it really rough.  Kids can be very cruel and the teasing can damage a child’s self-esteem and confidence.  It’s important for parents to do everything they can to make sure kids get the proper nutrition and the right amount of exercise.

However, when a child does start to have issues with weight, parents should try to do everything they can to help the child.  It’s not so much about the looks, it’s about the health, and it’s about the fact that emotional scars can be so damaging and take much longer to heal than it takes to lose weight.

If your child has already started to feel the effects of teasing, chances are when you bring up the subject of weight loss in the summer, “fat camp” will be the first thought in their mind.  Let them do the research with you online, and they’ll see that camps are set up to be fun and exciting, and are not meant to deprive them of food and force them to do sports they hate.

Kids who have been teased need support and encouragement, and they’ll be able to get that somewhere with trained professionals who understand their needs, and with other kids who are going through exactly the same thing.

Kids need to be at a place that is fun and positive, and hopefully they’ll learn to stop seeing themselves and their appearance negatively.  They’ll be able to pick up a lot of great habits and learn a lot about nutrition and fitness.  Their self-confidence may return by having great results and being able to commit to a more healthy lifestyle.
