As an overweight adult, fat camps, those terrible things that used to haunt the nightmares of children, might start to sound pretty good. Who wouldn’t want to go to the mountains, away from work, and spend a month doing nothing but swimming, hiking, playing sports with new friends? And how great that someone else plans all your meals and you don’t have any responsibilities except learning how to live a healthy lifestyle!
Of course, most adults can’t take a month off of work, and adult “fat camps” are probably not the fun and relaxing places you might imagine. After all, children’s camps are designed for children, but as an adult, you’re not in the same situation. You need to take responsibility for yourself (and maybe even your own family), and an adult camp teaches you how to do that.
Ultimately, kids look to other people for food and activities. They more or less have to eat what’s placed in front of them, and do what they’re told to do. But adults have the freedom to make many more choices, and with that freedom comes responsibility to learn about healthy living and to make healthy choices, if not for yourself, then for your family.
If you’re not able to take time off to go to an overnight fitness camp, there are lots of day camps that will give you a intense training. Some are weekend camps and some early-morning camps, and they’ll jump start your weight loss.
It may be difficult to find time for even those types of camps, and if so, you have a world of resources at your fingertips; the internet is a great place to educate yourself about diet and fitness…though it certainly doesn’t take the place of exercise!
